OOOOps 3 months later and a gazillion emails sent out at 20, 40, 60, even 240 million a day advertising for you, with a promise of even ½ of 1% return will make you a fortune…the house you have been dreaming about, the Ferrari in the drive way – not a cupid closer?  Most home based business fail?  What’s the deal – marketing ads looked splashy, eye-catching, mind grabbing and yet zero zilch sales??  I sought after the top pros, begged, borrowed and even tried stealing a dose of reality.  Welcome, clear your mind, join me sober and fasten your seat belts so you have the chance to clear the hurdles of bad habits and enter the world of marketing habit free!  Yes it might hurt - yes can just about promise it will, hang in here with me it’s worth it.

You just got started, you want to get going.  Now we are entrepreneurs and entitled to all the new splashy office furniture.  We want to go out and buy the office stuff, spruce up our work station –  doesn’t that new office chair look smart- hey honey can we section off this part of the house – I am going to make us a fortune dear!……..

Save your dollars

Save your dollars and hold down your excitement.  Hold off on the champaign.  The time will come.  Go without the expenses.  How many newbies burn up precious funds and purest energy.  90 days from zero is still mothers milk energy.  Preserve it, treasure it without excess or waste it outside of education, training and talking with mentors and prospects.  The reality isn’t bad and boot camp is going to be worth its weight – yep, you got it - in gold.   

Feeling Unique

Independence is a hallmark winning trait – we could talk for hours about your special strengths.  I know you because our book collections match title for title.  Your first 90 days needs 90 conference calls too.  Maybe college equipped you for a job at McLife, Inc.  But there’s nothing that prepared even the seasoned MBA for the creativity needed for brand marketing, training, coaching, inspiration and lead generation.  If you are really unique – call me.

Sage Wisdom

Whats left out of the brochures, and nope wasn’t on that zingo website I just looked at. Your job just got much more complex.  The first 90 days will determine whether you make it difficult or lay solid groundwork through difficult multi- tasking.  Conference calls daily.  Set a solid hour a day apart for interaction with a conversational style.  Get yourself a group of face to face business people.  Start a lunch meet or a one hour discussion group.  Do it now! Do it Fast!

Journal Entry

After more than a decade this is straight up folks.  The tax man has no sympathy, nor does the court for lazy or non-existent paper trails.  It’s not good enough to keep receipts!  Writing down the who’s, what’s, where’s and why’s in a daily diary style journal plus times and points of discussion or business reasons is worth its weight in gold  Get in the habit fast – yes right now pull out that old composition book from the closet – steal your sons or daughters if you have to – do it right now and don’t ignore it.  Everything yes everything everything goes in here.  Right now start!

The IRS considers MLM’s networking a hobby until you make significantly more than your current salary.  Don’t believe the new media hype that home businesses are great tax deductions and the U.S. is shifting to accommodate a Trillion dollar trend of home workers.  Sole proprietors get eaten by taxes and you’re now on the menu for taking a stab at the dream.  Fact is, treating your business like it’s an audit today is what any long term heavy hitter rarely wants to scare a new recruit with.  Let me be their voice, the bad cop, the DA and the prosecution.  Heavily detailed daily diary journal entries from the start please!  Oh yes and did I say it before?  Keep the journal right there – right next to your computer Write down your daily activities- write them now!.  You got it, Right?

Glue

The sticky stuff that holds things together.  Talking to your first 100 leads is just like  that frenzy of chasing and being chased.  Remember that game when we were kids running after kids, being caught, hiding behind trees, and of course the chasing after dark was much more fun and a little trickier.  Write out your mission statement just like a script and know it.  Mine is “John I’ve enjoyed our short talk.  You fit the profile of our most successful.  My mission is to create 20 millionaires and 180 people who make $20 grand a month in residuals in 5 years.  Are you ready to be a leader?” 

You don’t have a track record yet.  You are new to this company,   3 way calls are great but being green in front of the call is where you’ll feel the pressure.  Get your elevator pitch together so when you lose control of the conversation there’s a way to get back to your purpose, your mission and your credibility.

Pick Up the Phone:

Not for inbound calls either.  Straight dope #101 – don’t email new web prospects.  They think you’re a moron.  You’ll be feeding your own fears and wasting money on the lead.  Talk to leads immediately.  Conquer your fear, pick up the phone, have a conversation about their personal goals.  Keep your focus on the other guy, his wants, his dreams, his purpose for looking at new income options.  If you can’t talk through a fresh conversation period you are not cut out for this business.  Are you getting ready to get ready?  Don’t just do it. 

Get a Gimick

Most people poke their name and email 100 times a week so your call won’t have a link back to make the memory.  Therefore, get a gimmick, a slogan, be known for something or borrow a funded proposal from my list.  That way you can say “I am making 20 millionaires and looking for partners.  Does that ring a bell? What prompted you to get in touch with me?” Before your home business gains flight altitude leverage off someone else’s success.

A good sponsor will have already had this conversation with you but I wanted to bond in these special moments.  Stay connected to your company from the start.
