Part 9 of an occasional series

I am a collector of quotations. I have been ever since I learned how to write, I mean professionally, not in primary school.

I am particularly fond of what I like to call “pithy prose”. These short quotations can cover an unlimited variety of subjects: love, religion, politics, human nature, etc. What unites them is their ability to say more in one or two sentences than could be expressed in a thousand-word treatise. It’s like being able to pour a liter of liquid into a half-liter bottle.

They are superb examples of Mark Twain’s famous dictum, “The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”

In principle, all writers and public speakers are capable of producing pithy prose, but clearly some are better at it than others.

Any collection of pithy prose must necessarily be biased in terms of what it includes and excludes. I make no apologies for my selections, only for the hundreds of other meritorious quotations I had to leave out.

No one will agree with all these quotations; this was not their intention. You may even find some of them repugnant or outrageous. This was their intention.

We seldom learn anything of value from what we already agree with. Only those ideas that grate on our nerves can open our minds. As with oysters, irritation can produce pearls. So if anything you are about to read annoys or shocks you, try to think clearly and dispassionately about what it is saying. You will either be confirmed in your current belief or shaken into re-examining it.

Either way, you win!

This article is part of an occasional series. In each article, I will be offering more amusing, educating, and exasperating quotations to your judgment. But just to be certain that we agree on what we are talking about, here it is in a nutshell.

Pithy Prose: A quotation where at first you may not be quite certain what it means. But when you become certain, you become equally certain that it couldn’t have been said better any other way. In short, big ideas in small packages.

If you have a better definition of pithy prose, please contact me. I would love to hear it.

Who Is Johann Goethe?

Johann Goethe (1749 - 1812), whose full name was Johann Wolfgang van Goethe, was a German poet, novelist, playwright, and natural philosopher. He gained early fame with his novel “The Sorrows of Young Werther”, but his most famous work is the poetic drama “Faust”. As a natural philosopher, Goethe made important discoveries about plant and animal life. His unorthodox, non-Newtonian theory of light and color strongly influenced a number of later abstract painters.

Part 6 of an occasional series

Friedrich Nietzsche (1944 - 1900) was a German philosopher who challenged the foundations of Christianity and traditional morality. Central to his philosophy is questioning all ideas and dogmas that are not “life-affirming”, however much they may be part of the social fabric. done during my busy schedule, I had little knowledge about it’s marvels or
pitfalls. That is no longer the case. In these past grueling months of
investigating online “opportunities,” the absolute truth came to me like a
blinding light.

Learning in a vacuum is not learning. It is a series of mistakes, errors in
judgment and a roller-coaster of low lows and high highs. Trying to cope
without the fresh breeze of another’s ideas is not the way to success in any
business. Particularly in one that is, after all, world wide! To believe that,
without any experience and all alone, one can simply become instantly wealthy,
is a terrible misconception.

The truth is that we need leadership. We need mentors with sterling
reputations who will guide us with patience, compassion and excitement. It is
a necessity to not feel alone, sealed off in front of a machine while
trudging through this mystical maze of “opportunities.”

Like many of you, I am weary of the term “mentor” as used online. Everyone it
seems is an expert. Everyone has an immediate solution to your problem. It is
not about those countless “coaches” that I write.

Thankfully (for students like myself) there are real mentors out there. They
have created their own successes, built their own companies and usually have
a sense of the greater good. These actual professionals, with their real
lives and issues, are tremendously important to the learning that must be
done to succeed. Most importantly, they give us inspiration.

None of the real mentors ask us to sit quietly and do nothing. They do not
ask - they demand. They demand that we see in ourselves the ability to be
more than we are. They encourage our evolution; through hard work and
persistence.

Real leaders do not sell pipe dreams. They most especially do not allow nor
encourage just anyone to join them in the journey. Actual mentors want actual
students. The demand dedication to a cause, foresight in visualizing our
goals and the toughness to get tasks done to accomplish the success they have
modeled. They are selfless in sharing their successes. Even more astounding
to me, they are uninhibited in sharing their failures and flaws. Now that, is
a leader!

You may be wondering how to find such people. It isn’t easy to weed out the
pretenders from the real, I know. I cannot say that I miraculously zoned in
on them. Like everything else in this business, it took a lot of slow,
grinding work. Trust me when I tell you, once found, you’ll recognize them
right away. If the “mentor” you stumble upon does not offer some kind of
guaranty, then likely your search should continue.

If I were to apply any one suggestion to the weeding prospects, I think it
would be that. Mentors worth your time will guaranty your success. In some
way or other you will find them offering a successful completion of your
learning with no risk. You will get from A to B in a certain time-frame
directly because of their support and training systems (urgently important).
Along the way, you will have live support, actual contact with trainers and
answers to your questions no matter how inane they may seem.

In summation, these actual people will be accessible; will have so much
confidence in their own success as to guaranty yours; will provide all the
tools you need; will offer all of this or a return on your investment (large
or small) if you do not get there from here.

Please keep in mind at all times, they are obligated to do all of this if you
do the work. That is your commitment - success is their’s.

So called ‘Dating experts’ have spun a multi-million pound industry for many years, encouraging people to spend money they may not have on poor quality advice, drinks, flowers, jewellery, chocolates etc. in order to find their perfect partner.

Here at Seduction Labs we realise that material things do not necessarily encourage or even create happiness in a relationship, but there are many opportunities to learn about seduction from the real world.

We therefore help create an intelligent approach to dating and relationships, using the scientific method to improve the craft of seduction, because most dating and relationship advice is out of date, and at best misleading.

We test, design and evaluate seduction techniques at the cutting edge of technology, and also generate new technical and theoretical seduction ideas for intelligent people looking to improve their seductive lifestyle.

We hope you’ll visit www.seductionlabs.org soon.
