The biggest mistake people make is they allow their emotions to interfere. We have all done it. In order for us to reach our financial goals and dreams of one day retiring with the large yacht, house on the ocean or whatever they may be, we need to practice financial discipline.

Financial discipline requires us to stay to course. We can only achieve our sports betting goals over the long term if we stick to our strategy during the good and bad times. Reaching our financial dreams takes time and the discipline to ride the up and downs. Of course there will be bad streaks and good streaks in sports betting just like there is good and bad periods in the stock market. But the key to success is dependent on our ability to ride out the ups and downs. This can only be accomplished if you stay the course and diversify your bets during the good and bad times. Don’t allow yourself to bet too much of your bankroll on any one of your NFL football picks, free college football picks or other sports predictions. To put this in perspective, if you missed only the best 40 performing days of the S&P 500 index in the last 10 years (1998-2007), you would have a negative 8.4% return. However, if you stayed the course and kept your money in the S&P 500 index everyday for the past 10 years, you would have earned a positive 5.9% return.

Almost every sports bettor bets too much per game relative to his or her bankroll. The reason for this is simple. The inevitable outcome is that we usually deplete our sports betting bankroll to zero and stop playing before we even had a chance to win. Fortunately, if we can learn to control our emotions by managing our sports betting bankroll, then we can significantly limit the probability of finding ourselves in this predicament.

So what is the maximum that you should bet per game? First we need to determine your bankroll. This is different for every person but you should never start with any more than you are willing and able to lose. However, there is one constant that applies whether you bet 10 dollars per game or 1000 dollars per game. You should also never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any one game, just like you should never invest more than 5% of your investment portfolio in any one stock. In fact most of your bets should be between 1-3% of your bankroll. Only sports picks that you feel really confident about winning should you bet 4-5% of your sports betting bankroll. This oftentimes allows big underdogs to score garbage points late in a game to cover the spread.

The talent gaps between the best and worst teams have dramatically narrowed and as a result, the games have become more competitive. In fact, over the past few years we have seen teams with losing records the previous years advance far into the playoffs. It is clear that in this day and age, Sundays are more unpredictable and upsets are more prevalent than ever before. So why not take the points with your NFL football picks if any team can win on any given week?

Having grown up in the state of Florida and living in the Atlanta area for more than 20 years I ( Paul’s dad) have been an avid fan of American Football and Baseball for years. I remember many times that I enjoyed the thrilling game of college football in the stadium at The University of Florida. One particular event I recall was in the 70′s when a friend of mine and I were in attendence to cheer on The Gators against The Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were coming in undefeated 4 games into the season and Florida was 3 and 1. I happened to have my bugle with me that day. When we arrived to the stadium and found our seats we realized that we were surrounded by Mississippi State fans who had come to see the game. We were sitting behind the Bulldogs bench about 20 rows up. The Bulldog fans are well known for the cowbells they ring for their team. Well that day as The Bulldog team ran onto the field the clamoring of the cowbells their fans were ringing was silenced by a guy and his bugle. As the undefeated team ran on to the field I stood up and blew taps. That just happened to be a prelude to the Florida Gator victory that day. The friend of mine that was with me that day stared at me in shock as I was blowing taps in the middle of all the Mississippi State fans. They did not throw anything at me or slam me to the ground. In fact they looked as if they slightly appreciated that guy and his bugle who had upstaged hundreds of fans ringing their cowbells.

In 2004 I had my engineering pedigree put to the test before the eyes of the Nation, when I made my television debut on channel 4s “Scrapheap Challenge”. I was recruited to the ranks of RDF media to act as engineering expert to the ” Anoraks“team. The program put two trike experts head to head in a “Chariot race”. My design helped the Anoraks to win the final in November 2004, they then went on to beat the longstanding champions; “The catalysts” in the grand final!

I was recalled in 2007 as an expert to the “Engine eggheads”, A team of fresh faced engineering grads straight out of Uni. what these Guys lacked in practical ability, they made up for with enthusiasm! We did a lot of laughing, but not so much winning! Still it was great fun
